A Moving and Generous Offer from Claire Morris…

Claire
As I’m sure you’re aware, five of our Sangha members, Alex Stirling, Michael Procter, Sundeep Grewal, Lynne – Marie Ecclestone and Claire Morris were all due to be getting ordained this year. As a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic, these ordination retreats have now been postponed until next year. I’m sure you’ll join us in wishing all five well as they process this, inevitable, but no doubt, extremely disappointing news. In February, earlier this year, we did a fundraising appeal for Claire, to help her raise £1000 towards the cost of her ordination retreat. Claire has recently contacted us and made a very moving and generous offer:

Claire says . . .

The world has turned upside down, the things we used to take for granted – friends, family, freedom, are now very much missed and we sit alongside with compassion for a world that is suffering deeply. You may be aware that the men’s and women’s ordination retreats have been postponed, which includes the one that I was due to attend at Akashavana. I knew it was coming, as the days went on and the news that the virus was continuing to spread across the world, it wasn’t a surprise to finally receive confirmation. My initial reaction was one of relief, sitting in uncertainty was becoming painful and I could finally “put it down”. It is only recently that I have felt the sadness and loss. Then another day dawns and I feel different again. It is what it is; there are bigger news headlines and other ways to invest my energy and to be fully present in a world that is changing before our eyes.

So I opened this narrative talking about the things we might be missing, and one of the things I miss is the Centre. I miss the people; meditating in the shrine room; the familiar smell; the sense of safety; the second-hand book shop; being present in a space where many years of devotion and practice has happened. For this reason, I would like to put out an appeal to everyone who kindly donated towards the cost of my ordination retreat. I would like to donate the money to the Centre. I am hopeful that by the time I go on ordination retreat next year that I will have saved the money I need. If you have donated and you are happy for the money to go to the Centre – you don’t need to do anything. I will transfer the money over. If you wish the donation to go towards my ordination retreat next year, could you please contact me and let me know as soon as possible at claire@wildawake-mindfulness.co.uk. I am grateful for your generosity whatever you decide.
