Ambedkar Festival 2019
Mon 14th Oct : 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An evening dedicated to Dr Ambedkar, who converted to Buddhhism, as a way to liberation for himself and his followers.
Who is the event for? It’s for Order members, Mitras and Centre regulars who have completed a Buddhism Going Deeper course. Please get in touch if you’re not sure.
No need to book, just turn up a few minutes before we start. No charge, but as an unfunded charity, we rely on the generosity of people who use and value the Centre to help cover running costs, over £6,000 a week. We will welcome donations on the day and beyond.
A significant celebration
Dr Ambedkar’s embracing of Buddhism is celebrated by Buddhists all over India, where millions of Dalits continue to be oppressed by caste prejudice. Triratna Buddhists in India recognise Dr Ambedkar as a huge figure, maybe even a Bodhisattva, but many of us in the West are less clear about his significance.
On the anniversary of Ambedkar’s leading half a million of his people out of caste Hinduism and into Buddhism we learn why he still remains such a towering figure. We also aim to celebrate with our Sangha friends and have a great evening!
