Dr Ambedkar Festival
Mon 14th Oct : 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Amoghasiddhi, one of our most senior Order members from India, and Vajratara from the women’s ordination team and India Dhamma Trust, visit us to lead an evening dedicated to the great social reformer Dr Ambedkar. This is a precious opportunity to join two very eminent and inspiring members of the Triratna Buddhist Order in celebrating a highly significant moment of change.
Dr Ambedkar, Buddhism and Society
14th October commemorates the day in 1956 when 400,000 people embraced Buddhism in India, leaving behind social injustice and entering into a Buddhist path of practice, with Dr Ambedkar behind this momentous occasion.
Having tried social and political action to remove inequality in society, Dr Ambedkar believed the Buddhist path was the key to a powerful and peaceful social revolution. Amoghasiddhi and Vajratara will lead an evening celebrating this occasion and learning about how Buddhism can create the conditions for social change, as relevant now as it was in 1956.
Who is the event for? It’s for Order members, Mitras and Centre regulars who have completed a Buddhism Going Deeper course. Please get in touch if you’re not sure.
No need to book, just turn up a few minutes before we start. No charge, but as an unfunded charity, we rely on the generosity of people who use and value the Centre to help cover running costs, over £6,000 a week. We will welcome donations on the day and beyond.
