Ancient Wisdom, Modern World

Wed 9th Oct : 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until Wed 16th Oct, 2019

Neon love twenty four hours sign

How might Buddhist values help shape a world that desperately needs to change, and do we need to change ourselves, first? We’ll explore these questions and more in a new four-week series. The teachings of Buddhism can offer us so much more than feelings of stress relief and relaxation – good as those things are! They can offer us a radical new way of being and relating to one another. Come and find out how.

No charge, but as an unfunded charity, we rely on the generosity of people who use and value the Centre to help cover running costs, over £6,000 a week. We will welcome donations on the day and beyond.

All you need is love?, led by Sanghadhara and Siladevi

Sanghadhara and Siladevi will be exploring the Buddha’s teachings on kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity and how they might offer some solutions to the problems we face both individually and collectively. Although the sessions are grouped around a theme, there is no need to come to all of them, even if you’re here for the first time.

Week 1: 25th September All you need is love?
Week 2: 2nd October Can I save the world?
Week 3: 9th October What is the secret to happiness?
Week 4: 16th October: Is it possible to stay calm and carry on?

Each session stands alone and they will always start with a recap if needed. They will also involve meditation. We’ll start each evening with a cup of tea in our kitchen, and then up to the shrine room at 7.30pm. The evenings will be led by the core team of Sanghadhara, Siladevi and Vidyapala, although look out for special guest teachers!

We’ll be running these sessions in blocks of four every other month, with the next block starting on 20th November – not 13th November as previously advertised.

Who is Ancient Wisdom, Modern World for?

Anyone who has learned the two meditation practices we teach here – Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana.
