Ancient Wisdom, Modern World

Wed 27th Nov : 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, happening 4 times

Man stood next to lake

How might Buddhist values help shape a world that desperately needs to change, and do we need to change ourselves, first? We’ll explore these questions and more in a new four-week series. The teachings of Buddhism can offer us so much more than feelings of stress relief and relaxation – good as those things are! They can offer us a radical new way of being and relating to one another. Come and find out how.

No charge, but as an unfunded charity, we rely on the generosity of people who use and value the Centre to help cover running costs, over £6,000 a week. We will welcome donations on the day and beyond.

Living through boundless connection, led by Claire Morris and Vidyapala

The Buddha and his disciples lived in vivid connection with the natural world and all of life. How might Buddhist teachings help us to move from separation and alienation to intimacy and connection? What impact might this have on the way we care for our world? Although the sessions are grouped around a theme, there is no need to come to all of them, even if you’re here for the first time. We’ll also be meditating.

Week 1: 20th November Imagining boundless connection
Week 2: 27th November From separation to connection: Earth and Water
Week 3: 4th December From separation to connection: Fire and Air
Week 4: 11th December: How to stay connected

Each session stands alone and they will always start with a recap if needed. We’ll start each evening with a cup of tea in our kitchen, and then up to the shrine room at 7.30pm. The evenings will be led by the core team of Sanghadhara, Siladevi and Vidyapala, although look out for special guest teachers!

Who is Ancient Wisdom, Modern World for?

Anyone who has learned the two meditation practices we teach here – Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana.
