Mitra Ceremonies

Mon 1st Apr : 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Four New Mitras - Collage

Tonight our Sangha will gather together to welcome new Mitras to our community – it’s a Sanskrit word for friends.

The evening is for Order members, Mitras and Centre regulars who have completed a Buddhism Level 2 / Going Deeper course – please get in touch if you’re not sure. Friends and relatives of the new Mitras will of course be welcomed too. There’s no need to say you’re coming, but please be here in good time for a 7 pm start in the shrine room. There will be a table for any cards and small gifts you may want to bring the new Mitras to mark this occasion.

The New Mitras

A Joyful Occasion

At these ceremonies we witness, support and rejoice in the deepening commitment of a number of people from our Centre as they make the important step of becoming Mitras. They will be introduced to us all and we’ll hear about what being a Mitra means. Then, in a simple ceremony, they commit to practising Buddhism within the Triratna Buddhist Community for the foreseeable future.

There will also be an opportunity for existing Mitras to re-affirm the commitment they made when they became a Mitra. Please bring an offering of a flower and candle if you’d like to do that.

7 pm: Centre Chair Arthavadin’s welcome and introduction, then a short talk on being a Mitra
7.25: Rejoicing in our new Mitras, plus a few minutes meditation
8.05: Sevenfold Puja and Mitra Ceremonies. The new Mitras sit on for five minutes to absorb the ceremony while everyone else leaves in silence
9.05: Down to the tea area for tea and cake
