Parinirvana Day Festival 2019

Sun 17th Feb : 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Parinirvana Day

On Parinirvana Day, Sangha members commemorate the Buddha’s death. We also remember our family and friends who have died, and the inescapable truth of our own passing. Acharashraddha, Arthavadin and Vishangka will be leading this year, and the day follows on from the urban retreat.

Who is the event for?

It’s for Order members, Mitras and Centre regulars who have completed a Buddhism Level 2 / Going Deeper course. Please get in touch if you’re not sure.

Please be here in good time for a 1.45 pm start in the Lotus Hall. We invite you to wear something white on this festival day and bring the traditional offering of a flower, as a symbol of impermanence. Also do bring photos of any loved ones who have died to place on the shrine during the ritual. Please send the names of anyone close to you who has died in the last year Vishangka at vishangka@manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk if you would like them to be among those he will read out.

12.30: Shared Lunch: Please bring vegan food to share. If it's vegetarian but not vegan, please label it clearly.
1.45: Introduction and ritual from Vishangka
2.30: Talk by Mahasraddha
3.30: Tea break or silent time in shrine room
4 pm: Meditation and reflection with Arthavadin
4.30: Sevenfold Puja and readings from Acharashraddha
5.30: End
