Tools for Living: Not about being Good

Sat 14th May : 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Hybrid Hybrid Event
Book Cover: Not about being Good

A friendly and practical weekly introduction to Buddhism and meditation, with the option of joining us online or attending in-person at the Centre. We cover a different topic each time, usually in series lasting a few weeks each, and each session includes a period of led meditation.

Everyone Welcome, any Saturday

Whether you are completely new to Buddhism and meditation or want to revisit the core teachings in a friendly group, join us for a warm welcome on a Saturday morning. Come once or as often as you like and there's no need to be here at the beginning of a series, each session stands alone and we always start with a recap. Shakyajata, Mahabodhi and/or Suryasraddha usually lead the sessions with a team of friends from the Centre.

Looking at Buddhist Ethics

From March – May, we’re looking at Buddhist ethics, in a series based on Subhadramati’s Not about being Good: A Practical Guide to Buddhist Ethics. This is a down to earth theme on how to live and what to do. There’s no need to have a copy of the book or to read it, but it’s available in our bookshop and reference library if you want to take a look.

Buddhist ethics are not about following rules to get material, social or religious rewards. For us, living ethically springs from knowing that other people are really no different from ourselves. A key Buddhist insight is that consciousness isn’t fixed; we’re creating it all the time by our actions of body, speech and mind. We can change!

Come to the Centre or Join us Online

Around half of us come to Tools for Living here at the Centre, and half join in online from home. You don't need to book, and the price is the same for both options. Whichever way you come, please be here in good time for a prompt and comfortable start.

£6 standard rate or £4 concessionary rate

Problem paying? We don't want to turn anyone away. If you are unable to pay the suggested rates, please contact the Centre Team on info@manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk and we'll work something out with you.

Coming In-Person?

Before coming here, please read our advice on visiting the Centre in person for up-to-date information on our Covid precautions.
