Tools for Living: Not about being Good
Sat 28th May : 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Saturday, repeating until Sat 28th May, 2022
A friendly and practical weekly introduction to Buddhism and meditation, with the option of joining us online or attending in-person at the Centre. We cover a different topic each time, usually in series lasting a few weeks each, and each session includes a period of led meditation.
Everyone Welcome, any SaturdayWhether you are completely new to Buddhism and meditation or want to revisit the core teachings in a friendly group, join us for a warm welcome on a Saturday morning. Come once or as often as you like and there's no need to be here at the beginning of a series, each session stands alone and we always start with a recap. Shakyajata, Mahabodhi and/or Suryasraddha usually lead the sessions with a team of friends from the Centre.
Looking at Buddhist Ethics
In March and April, we’re looking at Buddhist ethics, in a series based on Subhadramati’s Not about being Good: A Practical Guide to Buddhist Ethics. This is a down to earth theme on how to live and what to do. There’s no need to have a copy of the book or to read it, but it’s available in our bookshop and reference library if you want to take a look.
Buddhist ethics are not about following rules to get material, social or religious rewards. For us, living ethically springs from knowing that other people are really no different from ourselves. A key Buddhist insight is that consciousness isn’t fixed; we’re creating it all the time by our actions of body, speech and mind. We can change!
