Tools for Living: Not about Being Good
Sat 1st Aug : 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Saturday, repeating until Sat 12th Sep, 2020
A practical course on how to live and what to do! No-one wants to feel like they’re being told what to do – we like to think we know what’s best for ourselves and others. The trouble is, our life doesn’t always bear that out. A key Buddhist insight is that consciousness isn’t fixed. We’re creating it all the time by our actions of body, speech and mind, meaning we can shape our future.
Over six sessions, we’ll explore how to act in ways that flourish our lives and contribute to the lives of those around us. You will also learn the two most important Buddhist meditation practices. Team-teaching, small-group discussion, meditation, and practical exercises will give us the tools to become more like the person we want to be. No preparation is required, but you may want to read Subhadramati’s Not About Being Good: A Practical Guide to Buddhist Ethics
Everyone welcome, any Saturday
Not about Being Good is a series of six sessions in our long-running Tools for Living your Life – a weekly introduction to Buddhism and meditation, currently online. It’s suitable for anyone and everyone! Whether you are completely new to Buddhism and meditation or want to revisit the core teachings in a friendly group, join us for a warm welcome on a Saturday morning. Come once or as often as you like, no need to be here for the first session, each week stands alone. Suryaka and Shakyajata usually lead the sessions with a team of helpers. We’ll be here online through into the autumn but there’s no session on 15th August – sorry.
