Sitting with the Buddha – An Urban Meditation Retreat

A non-residential retreat, led by Silabodhi, Acharashraddha, Vishangka, Dayanandi, Mahasraddha, Taravandana and Arthavadin, leading into our Parinirvana Day Festival.

Following on from last year’s successful urban retreat, we invite you to join us for a weekend of collective practice both in our homes and at our Buddhist Centre. The theme this year is Sitting with the Buddha. We’ll use readings from the Pali Canon to explore what the Buddha said about meditation, and from there explore all aspects of our system of meditation. There will also be discussion and puja. Please note that activities won’t start at the Centre until Friday morning.

Meeting up before the retreat

There will be two warm-up evenings where we can hear about the experience of last year’s retreat and living with each other. We can also discuss how we will plan this year’s retreat – who we might live with during the retreat, how best to spend the time together, and answer any questions.

Warm Up Evening 1: Monday 20th January at 7pm
Warm Up Evening 2: Monday 3rd February at 7pm

The Buddhist Centre will be open at its usual times through the retreat, but some short sessions are cancelled.

Collective Practice

Please book on if you intend to come for all or some of this retreat. We encourage you to attend the whole retreat if you can, but you can also drop into any part of it if you aren’t able to commit to the whole retreat. We also encourage you to stay with one another if you can, to strengthen our sense of collective practice.  Last year several people lived together for the period of the retreat and found it really helpful to go deeper in their practice. Please let us know at info@manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk if you can host another retreatant or would like to stay with one, and also if you’ll be making your own arrangements to do this.
