Young Buddhists: Committing to Truth, Love, and Friendship
Mon 6th Sep : 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
A Friendly Informal Group for Young Adults over Eighteen
Led by young people for young people, we are supporting one another to deepen our experience of the Dharma, through friendship, events and study.
Committing to Truth, Love, and Friendship
This month, we will hear from Juliette and Stephen, who recently took a significant step in their spiritual lives and became mitras in the Triratna Buddhist Community. Mitra is a Sanskrit word which means ‘friend’. Becoming a mitra is to make these three declarations:
- I feel that I am a Buddhist
- I am trying to practise the five ethical precepts of Buddhism
- I feel that the Triratna Buddhist community is the main context in which I want to deepen my Buddhist practice
But what do these commitments mean on a personal level, how do they affect our everyday lives, and how does someone get to the point where they think they are ready to become a mitra?
Join us for this evening in which we’ll hear from two inspired young Buddhists. Whether you’re new to Buddhism or more experienced, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about what it means to deepen one’s commitment to universal values of love and truth.
Who is the Young Buddhists Group for?
Anyone aged 18 – 30 who is interested in exploring and practising Buddhism with other younger people. We meet on the first and third Monday evening of the month. Interested? Just come along to one of our meetings or get in touch with us through the Centre. We also have a Manchester Young Buddhists Group on Facebook.
There’s no need to book. We gather together in the Buddhist Centre lounge about 15 minutes before the start of the session and sometimes hang out together afterwards. It’ll be great to have you with us!
There's no charge to attend this event, but as an unfunded charity, we rely on the generosity of people who use and value the Centre to help cover running costs, over £6,000 a week. We will welcome donations on the day and beyond.
