Bookshop

Books, Buddhas and Ethical Gifts

The Centre’s spacious ground floor shop is a great place to browse. New stock comes in all the time and almost everything we sell comes from Buddhist right livelihood businesses, other ethical sources, or small local independent businesses. All proceeds go towards the Centre and its activities. No minimum spend on card payments. Our friendly receptionists can advise on what to buy and you are welcome to try out the meditation equipment and singing bowls to get what’s right for you.

We sadly can’t usually offer online or mail order sales, but we’re selling gift vouchers over the phone when the shop’s open – get in touch!

Educational Visits

Welcoming Community Groups, Schools and Students of all Ages

Many school and college students come to the Buddhist Centre each year to explore Buddhism and see the Centre at work. We also welcome community groups. Do contact us to talk about what kind of visits we can offer.

Group visits

Talk to us about what we can offer your group on a guided visit. There is usually a tour of the ground floor and shrine room, discussion, questions and answers, and an optional meditative stilling exercise, but each visit will meet the needs of each group.

We can also offer a Buddhist visitor in your school, in both the classroom and assemblies for primary to AS/A2 level.

Online options may be available too.

Thank you for the professional and friendly way in which you shared with our pupils the Buddhist vision of life, in what was an engaging, welcoming and reassuring environment. They were clearly impressed and enriched

Meditation at Work

Team Sessions with Heart

The Buddhist Centre offers a range of options for local businesses and other organisations interested in bringing an approach of mindfulness and positivity to their work. Small and medium sized teams may wish to come to us – an attractive, affordable location right in the heart of Manchester. Or we can come to you, if that would work better. We can, at its simplest, offer meeting space with a little extra, right through to a complete tailor-made programme.

A package to suit your workplace

Typical packages are for full or half days and are led by a team of experienced teachers and facilitators, working with you on your requirements. We also offer shorter sessions on two themes – Cultivating Awareness and Cultivating Positivity. These include a practical introduction to meditation, with a focus on the part it can play in our daily lives.

Typical prices

Pricing varies with different packages but usually start at around £250 for a half day here at our Centre, and £150 for a one-hour session at your premises. Special rates for charities and voluntary groups may be possible.

Basement Café

We’re very sad that Tibetan Kitchen left our basement space in May 2023.

Although we were enjoying collaborating and loved how much of a perfect match Tibetan Kitchen and the Buddhist Centre were, the arrangement turned out not to be financially viable.

While they are no longer open on Turner Street, Tibetan Kitchen continue to thrive in their Chorlton location and at their occasional pop-ups.

We wish them all the very best into the future. The friendly faces, mo-mos and chai will be much missed!
